Many of the most complex and devastating infectious diseases of animals, and humans, are transmitted by arthropod vectors.  Ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes can each transmit viral, bacterial, protozoal, and helminthic pathogens that cause untold suffering and economic loss. Several of these vector borne infections are also zoonotic, increasing the urgency for veterinarians to be familiar with these pathogens and the diseases they cause.

This talk will address principles of pathogen transmission with special emphasis on tick-transmitted infections, as well as the value of screening in healthy pets and disease diagnosis.
