Reducing the risk of antibiotic residues on dairy farm operations: the Food Armor® program

The dairy industry will face increasing pressure to reduce or eliminate antibiotic residues. Many residue issues result from poor communication and understanding by farm workers who are using legal, approved drugs improperly. The objective of the Food Armor® program is to identify potential hazards and the critical points where these hazards can be controlled over the long term.

Food safety and drug use topics to be covered include:

1. Veterinarian/Client/Patient Relationship

2. Drug list

3. Protocols

4. Standard Operating Procedures

5. Records

6. Veterinary Oversight

Presented by:

Dr. Jon Garber, Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association Food Armor Committee Chairman

Dr. Theresa L. Ollivett, a Diplomate with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and an Assistant Professor in the Food Animal Production Medicine section at the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine
