By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the classification of controlled substances at the Federal and NY State levels;

  2. Discuss legislation as it pertains to prescribing and dispensing controlled substances in NY State;

  3. Know prescription writing and labeling requirements for controlled substances;

  4. Provide an update on recent changes in NY State controlled substance law;

  5. Discuss I-STOP reporting;

  6. Define diversion;

  7. Recognize possible signs of diversion;

  8. Report suspected diversion;

  9. Employ methods of preventing diversion; and

  10. Understand record keeping and storage requirements for controlled substances.
