Dr. Moore is currently a Professor at Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in West Lafayette, Indiana, and serves as the Director for Clinical Trials at Purdue’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. His research interests include infectious disease epidemiology and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Moore has authored or co-authored more than 130 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, and currently serves on editorial review boards of the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association.


Learning objectives for this session will include:

1.  Participants will recognize the primary body systems and organs affected by leptospires and the varying clinical signs in dogs that are associated with the infection.

2.  Participants will identify the different diagnostic methods of testing dogs for leptospiral infection and the tests’ corresponding strengths and weaknesses at different times in the infection.

3.  Participants will learn principles of public health safeguards and antibiotic treatment of leptospirosis.

4.  Participants will recognize the important serovars in leptospirosis vaccination and vaccination principles including safety.
