Canine/Feline Infectious Diseases and Animal Transport: Bridging the Gap between Sheltering and Private Practice

Presented by: Dr. Erin Henry

During this interactive program, attendees will learn about topics that straddle the line between shelter medicine and general practice. This includes infectious diseases that may be seen in adopted shelter animals, with a focus on feline upper respiratory disease and canine influenza. They will learn how to identify suspect cases, when confirmatory testing may be indicated, current therapeutic recommendations and preventive measures that can be taken.  Attendees will also learn about best practices for interstate shelter animal transportation. The program will finish up with how veterinarians in private practice can work with their local shelters/rescue partners to improve the care of animals being adopted.
