CDVMS Continuing Education Series Presents:

Dr. Elisa Mazzaferro

Stabilization of Emergencies that Won't Survive Transfer

For the small animal practitioner, emergency patients seem to appear at the busiest times or right before the clinic is scheduled to close for the day. When an emergency or referral hospital is close, it may seem better to refer the pet immediately to another for stabilization and treatment. For some pets, however, the critical nature of their disease make them unlikely to survive transfer. This presentation will discuss those cases of trauma, hemoabdomen, hypovolemia, severe anemia, GDV, uncontrolled seizures and various causes of respiratory distress that must be stabilized prior to referral, in order to save the patient’s lives.
