Safeguarding Controlled Substances: Prescribing, Reporting, Record Keeping, & Diversion Prevention

Presented by: Lisa Penny, R.Ph., FSVHP

Increased focus by state and federal agencies on the prevention of controlled substance diversion has forced many veterinary practices to re-evaluate their handling of controlled substances. This includes a complete and detailed understanding of the complex laws regarding record keeping and security of all controlled substances purchased and used on a daily basis. This lecture will help today’s busy veterinarian to better understand what needs to be done and how to better do this in their individual practice by providing practical examples of record keeping practices and a review of reporting and inventory requirements.
